KIHON: Basics or Fundamentals (A) 5 x Forward (B) 5 x Backward

  1. Sanbon ren tzuki (Series of three punches) (A)*
  2. Age uke / mae ashi / gyaku tzuki (Rising sweeping block, front kick with reverse punch)
  3. Soto uke / enpi ukaken/ Gyaku tzuki (Outside forearm block, elbow and reverse punch) (A)
  4. Uchi uke / Mawashi ashi / Gyaku tzuki (Inside forearm block, front round house kick with reverse punch) (B)
  5. Gedan uke / mae ashi / gyaku tzuki (Lower level sweeping block, front kick with reverse punch) (A)
  6. Shuto uke / Nukite (Knife-hand block with spearhand) (B)
  7. Mae ashi geri (Front kick, followed by rear kick)
  8. Mawashi ashi ren geri (Front roundhourse kick, followed by rear kick) (A)

KATA

  • Bassai Dai (to penetrate a fortress – big) image link
  • The strong techniques of this kata emphasize hip movement. Some resemble a battering ram being used against fortress walls.

Physical Conditioning: 2 sets of 20 pushups • 2 sets of 50 sit-ups • 2 sets of 30 burpees 

Light sparring:  2 rounds of 3 minutes 

Competition: The evaluation will be performed in a competition setting in which student’s performance will be evaluated by an instructor.
